Take it Like a Romanian
Here's a fairly disturbing industry video for dentistry:
Reminds me of an interesting story... I was in an independent film where I was playing a 16-year old. I was, at the time, 28, so there was some makeup work to be done. The makeup artist was Romanian, had just moved to Vancouver recently.
First part, unrelated to the video above-noted: She was kind and asked about my character to figure out what to do for cosmetics. I told her a bit: “She's 16, but looks a bit older, so the main character doesn’t know” etc. She went to work. It was taking awhile. Hey, I didn’t need that much work, I thought...Plus this was an independent film and everything had to be done fast. Finally, after an eternity she said “it takes a lot of work to make your wrinkles stronger” (P.S. acting is always so good for the ego...) I was confused “You’re emphasizing my wrinkles? Why?” She replied with “It is hard work to make you look 60!”
Now, how this relates to the dentistry video is that she was also telling me about her experiences with dentists in Romania and said the following. “In Romania they did not have anesthetic” (Good God! ) “They do everything with no drugs. So now, in Canada, when I go to dentist, and they want to give me something for the pain, I say “NO! I do not NEED anesthetic!”
Yeah, anesthetic is for wimps.
And here I am wanting someone to knock me unconscious when I go for a blood test.
